Modeling Histories in Object DBMS ?
نویسنده
چکیده
Temporal DBMS ooer concepts and functionalities related to data timestamping and history management. Analyzing the numerous approaches in this eld demonstrate a signiicant lack of uniication of the main results, thus postponing the emergence of commercial products. This problem is about to be solved for the relational approach, e.g. through the deenition of the TSQL2 language. However, there is still much to be done in the context of object DBMS. This paper proposes an historical model integrating the main functionalities needed by an object DBMS to cope with the data historical dimensions.

Relationships for Dynamic Data Types in RSQL
Currently, there is a mismatch between the conceptual model of an information system and its implementation in a database management system (DBMS). Most of the conceptual modeling languages relate their conceptual entities with relationships, but relational database management systems solely rely on the notion of relations to model both, entities and relationships. To make things worse, real wo...
متن کاملManaging Derived Data in the Gaea Scienti c DBMS
One important aspect of scienti c data management is metadata management. Metadata is information about data (e.g., content, source, processing applied, precision). One kind of metadata which needs special attention is the data derivation information, i.e., how data are generated. In our application domain of geographical information systems (GIS) and global change research, we view scienti c o...
متن کاملAn XML Storage System for Object-Oriented/Object-Relational DBMSs
As XML has become popular as a document standard in the World Wide Web, a lot of research has been done on the XML storage systems, which store and manage XML documents using existing DBMSs. Most of the research activities, however, assume a relational DBMS instead of an object-oriented/object-relational (OO/OR) DBMS, which offers more powerful modeling capabilities. In this paper, we present t...
متن کاملSharable DBMS for Genome Informatics
The primary aim of this project is: To produce and disseminate a freely sharable, domain-speciic database management system (DBMS) suitable for use as a component of a genome informatics system. Over the past three-and-a-half years we have developed and operated genome informatics systems for the genetic-and physical-mapping projects carried out at the Whitehead In-stitute/MIT Center for Genome...
متن کاملExtending Uml Class Diagrams to Capture Additional Association Semantics
The Unified Modeling Language (UML) has gained much popularity in recent years. In UML, class diagrams provide notations for modeling the semantics of the structural relationships, or associations, that occur between objects. Object Relationship Notation (ORN) provides another declarative scheme that permits the semantics of such associations to be modeled and then defined to a Database Managem...
